Tuesday, November 19, 2024 (10:00 AM - 2:00 PM) (EST)

Description

The cool season is finally upon us! With it comes the perfect weather for working on the MST in the Coastal Crescent! Between now and the end of the year, we have 5 exciting days of trail work scheduled for ongoing projects in Bladen County. Please consider joining us and being a part of this transformative work to expand and improve the MST! These workdays will all be centered around basic trail maintenance work that is not overly strenuous and doesn't require special skills or training. This will include leveling the trail bed, cutting back vegetation, and removing debris.

DIRECTIONS: Camp Chamblee in Bladen Lakes State Forest is a primitive campground at the end of the wide dirt road "Camp Chamblee Trail" which must be accessed from Sweet Home Church RoadThe Ranger Station in Turnbull Creek Educational State Forest is located at 4803 Sweet Home Church Road and very easy to find.

WHAT TO BRING: heavy rakes, loppers, clippers, NO POWER TOOLS, extra water, gloves, sun screen, snacks and/or a packed lunch (except for events where lunch is provided). Please make sure to label your tools so that yours go home with you. If you don't have any of these tools, we will provide what is needed.

WEAR: sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, long socks, a hat for sun protection.

COMPLIMENTARY LUNCH: Sandwiches and chips will be provided for attendees on 12/1 and 12/22. To help us know how much to order, please make sure to register for those events in advance (links above). If you have special dietary restrictions please let us know so we can accommodate those needs.

We are so excited to add more natural surface trail in Bladen County and hope to see you there! Cell service can be spotty in these locations, but my number is below if you have any issues the day of. I'll send a reminder and weather update a few days ahead of time to those who have registered and if weather becomes an issue I will update on the workday status 24 hours in advance.

Feel free to reach out with any questions. See you there!

Camp Chamblee
85 Camp Chamblee Trail
Elizabethtown,
Join us for a trail workday along a soon to be opened section of the MST in Bladen Lakes State Forest. This new section of trail will connect our soon to be built bridge over Turnbull Creek to Sweet Home Church Road and pass through a primitive campground, Camp Chamblee. We will be cutting back overgrown vegetation, raking uneven areas of soil, moving fallen branches, and cleaning up trash (if needed). Please bring gloves, boots, water and a lunch with you. Tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Afterward, this section of trail will be ready to open when the bridge is done!
